How to Make a Disco Ball Turtle

Step 1: Cut the disco ball in half

Carefully cut the disco ball ornament in help using a knife. The inside is foam, so it cuts easily as long as you are between the glass tiles.

To create a hanging turtle ornament, use the disco ball half with the attached string.

Step 2: Attach the Disco Shell

Roll a piece of clay and flatten to form a circle the same size as the disco ball half. Press the disco ball into the clay firmly to attach.

Step 3: Sculpt the Head

Roll a small ball of air-dry clay and gently shape it into a turtle head. Press it onto the front of the disco ball ornament, blending the clay slightly where it meets the shell to help it stay attached.

Step 4: Add the Legs

Roll four small pieces of clay into short oval shapes for the legs.

Attach two legs to each side of the disco ball near the bottom. Press firmly and smooth the seams with your fingers so they adhere securely.

Step 5: Let the Clay Dry

Place your turtle on a flat surface and allow the clay to dry completely according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Drying time varies by brand and thickness but is typically between 24 and 72 hours.

Painting Your Turtle

Once the clay is fully dry, it’s time for the fun part—painting! Paint your turtle the base colour of your choice. Let dry. Now paint your turtles dots in an accent colour, using a small paint brush.

Apply one or two coats of acrylic paint for the best coverage. Allow the paint to dry completely between coats.

STEP-BY-STEP TUTORIAL

Step 1: Prep Your Workspace

Lay down parchment paper or a silicone mat. Model Magic won’t stick much, but this makes cleanup even easier. Open your clay and knead it for 20–30 seconds to soften it.

Step 2: Roll Out the Clay

Using a rolling pin or glass jar, roll your clay to about ¼ inch thick.
Thinner clay will be too floppy; thicker clay will take longer to dry and may crack.

Step 3: Form the Bow Loops

Take the long strip and bring the ends toward each other to create the bow

Lightly pinch the middle together. Don’t worry—Model Magic is super forgiving!

Step 4: Shape the Bow Tails

Cut a soft ribbon-style “V” at the bottom of each tail strip.
Gently pinch the top of each strip to create a little gathered effect—it will look more realistic once assembled.

Step 6: Assemble the Bow

Now it’s time to build your topper!

Place both tails down first, overlapping at the top.
Position the Bow loops above the tails..
Wrap your small rectangle around the center, trimming any excess.

The bow is now fully formed!

Step 7: Create a Tree-Topper Attachment

Use a pencil to poke a hole in the back of your bow so you can thread ribbon or twine through.

To make it extra secure – Hot glue a circle of cardboard over your twine or wire to secure it in place on your bow.

Step 8: Let Your Bow Fully Dry

Model Magic needs 24–48 hours to dry completely.
Set your bow somewhere safe and flat. It will stay super lightweight even when dry!

Step 9: Paint

Once dry, paint your bow:

Antique gold
Matte blush pink
Glossy red
Candy-pink retro stripes

To get the Antique gold colour I was after, I first painted my bow dark brown and then painted it metallic gold.

DISPLAY YOUR BOW TREE TOPPER

Attach your bow to the top branch using the wire or twine you attached earlier. Step back and admire your handiwork!

A personalized Christmas keepsake made with your favorite memories!

This adorable DIY mini Polaroid picture ornament is the perfect way to capture special moments from the year and display them on your Christmas tree. Whether you fill it with family photos, pet snapshots, or fun memories with friends, it’s an easy craft project that adds a personal touch to your holiday decor.

What You’ll Need

Mini Polaroid photo template (link to Canva document below)
Fillable Clear Ornaments
Printable vinyl sheets
White craft foam sheets
Scissors or craft knife
Ribbon
Heat transfer vinyl (HTV) for the year (optional)
Hot glue gun or craft glue
Iron or heat press (for applying HTV)

I used 3 inch fillable ornaments and filled them with 15 mini polaroid photos. If you wanted to include more, you could use a bigger ornament.

Step 1: Personalize Your Polaroids in Canva

Open the Canva Polaroid template provided in this tutorial.
Upload your favorite photos right into the placeholders.
Print two copies of each photo. Your mini polaroids will be double sided so you can see your photos in the ornament.
Once you’re happy with your mini Polaroid designs, download the file as a PDF(for print).

Step 2: Print on Vinyl

Load your printable vinyl into your printer according to the package directions.
Print your sheet of customized mini Polaroids. Make sure to print as photo or choose best quality in pritner settings.
Allow the ink to dry fully (usually 10–15 minutes).

Step 3: Cut and stick on Foam

Carefully cut out each mini Polaroid along the outer edges.
Trace each cutout onto your white foam sheet and cut to match.
Peel and stick the vinyl Polaroid to both sides of the foam — this makes the photos sturdy and visible from both sides.

You can use double-sided tape or a dab of glue for extra hold if needed.

Step 4: Add the Bow and Year

Cut a small piece of heat transfer vinyl (HTV) in your chosen color (gold, red, or metallic silver looks great!).
Use your cutting machine (like a Cricut or Silhouette) to cut out the year.
Press the vinyl year onto your ribbon or bow using an iron or heat press, following your HTV’s instructions.
Once cooled, attach the finished bow to the top of your ornament with a dot of hot glue.

NOTE: IF you don’t have a Cricut machine, you can write the year on your ribbon with a paint pen or fabric pen!

Step 5: Assemble and Hang

Open up your clear ornament.
Fill with your mini polaroids.
Add your bow with the year on top for the perfect finishing touch!

It’s bursting with culture, history, and the kind of natural beauty that makes every photo look like a postcard. And—parents, listen up—it’s family-friendly without being overly touristy.

Must-See Places in Curaçao (Kid-Approved!)

1. Willemstad

This colorful capital city feels like a European town dropped into the tropics. We walked across the floating Queen Emma Bridge, strolled through Punda and Otrobanda to enjoy the street art, and snapped endless photos of the rainbow-colored buildings lining the waterfront.

Family Tip: enjoy a meal at one of the restaurants along the water with a view of the Queen Emma bridge. The kids will love watching the floating bridge move for incoming boats. We loved The Iguana Cafe. Great food and great view of the Queen Emma Bridge.

Every Thursday Willemstad has Punda Vibes where you will enjoy lots of live music and fireworks. I would recommend planning a day trip to Willemstad to check out the floating market and the gorgeous street art as well as a Thursday evening visit for Punda vibes.

2. Playa Kenepa Grandi (Grote Knip)

Hands-down one of the most stunning beaches we’ve ever visited. White sand, turquoise water, and perfect snorkeling for beginners—our kids were obsessed with spotting little fish right at the shoreline. There is also a spot to cliff jump which was a huge highlight for my kids.

3. Shete Boka National Park

For a break from beach lounging, explore Curaçao’s rugged coastline. This park is home to dramatic blowholes, caves, and waves that crash with serious force.

Family Tip: Wear sneakers—this is more of a rocky walk than a flip-flop stroll.

4. Play Porto Marie

Beautiful white sand beach with great snorkelling and it’s home to pigs! That’s right, this beach has a family of pigs that roam around. We saw one grab a snorkel and run down the beach!

5. Daibooi Beach

This beach is beautiful and it features amazing snorkeling. We lucked out and discovered a family of sea turtles while snorkeling! This was a highlight of the trip for us! Swimming with turtles was high up on our bucket list. The turtles tend to hang out on the right side of the beach by the boat launch area where they launch the jet skis. Snorkeling along the rocks around there you will likely spot a turtle.

6. Tugboat Beach

Tugboat Beach is a snorkeler’s paradise and one of Curaçao’s most unique coastal spots, famous for the small sunken tugboat resting just a few meters from shore. Over the years, the wreck has transformed into a vibrant underwater reef, teeming with colorful fish, corals, and marine life—making it a dream for both beginner and experienced snorkelers.

7. Fort Beekenburg

Fort Beekenburg is an 18th-century fort with sweeping views of turquoise Caribbean waters. Built in 1703 to protect the island from pirates and invading ships, it’s a rare chance to step right into history. You can explore the thick stone walls and ancient cannons while imagining life in the Dutch colonial era. Unlike some historic sites, Fort Beekenburg feels refreshingly untouched—you can climb its narrow stairs, wander its ramparts, and take in panoramic vistas without the crowds.

Where We Stayed

We opted for a family-friendly Airbnb near Jan Thiel Beach, with a private pool. It gave us the perfect mix of home comforts and tropical vibes. There are many homes available for rent on Airbnb and VRBO.

Ready to throw a party that’s part fashion, part crafting, and all kinds of fun? A belt bag decorating party is the perfect hands-on activity for kids’ birthdays, or a girls’ night. Guests go home with a custom accessory they actually want to wear. It’s a way to celebrate with a built-in craft activity.

Whether you’re hosting indoors, in your backyard, or even at a park, here’s everything you need. With this list, you can throw the ultimate belt bag decorating party.

What is a Belt Bag Decorating Party?

Each guest gets their own plain belt bag (also known as a fanny pack), and the supplies to decorate it however they like — think chenille patches and iron-on patches. It is creative, personalized, and gives kids or teens something fun (and functional!) to take home.

What You’ll Need

Belt Bags

Buy plain, solid-color belt bags — you can find these on Amazon for a good price. Black, white, or pastel colors work best for decorating.

Patches

A variety of Iron-on patches. You want lots so there is something for everyone! Chenille Patches look really cute on these bags. They usually come with an adhesive back but I like to glue them on so they’re extra secure using fabric glue or another strong glue.

Tools & Extras

Iron or mini heat presses, fabric glue, Cardboard inserts (to put inside bags while decorating), Design templates.

Party Setup Tips

1. Prep the Belt Bags

You can pre-insert cardboard pieces to protect the interior fabric while decorating.

2. Set Up The decorating bar

Set up a central table with organized bins of patches. Use wooden trays, little boxes, plates, bowls – anything to organize the patches. Digging through all those fun, pretty patches and finding your favourites is the best part!

3. Design Templates

Lay out Belt bag design templates for each guest so they can play with patch design. This allows your guests to find their perfect layout. Once they have decided on the design, they are ready to secure their design onto their bag!

4. Create a Heat Press/ Glue Station

Set-up a separate, adult-only area with an iron or mini heat press. Help each guest secure their design once they’re done placing their patches.

Party Favors

The belt bag is the party favor! But you can go a step further:

Send your guests home with some candy and little gifts they can put in their belt bag! Think chapstick, scrunchies and some treats!
